Services available at all school locations:
Cross Categorical:
This is instructional support available to students with high-incidence disabilities who require specially-designed instruction and benefit from additional supplemental instruction or replacement instruction. This type of service is available in all elementary and secondary schools.
Related Services:
Special services offers the following related services: counseling, occupational therapy, orientation & mobility, physical therapy, and speech/language therapy. Related services are considered by IEP teams and added if the related service is necessary to access specially-designed instruction. There is a difference between services offered in an educational setting and those offered through a medical model. Related services focus solely on educationally-related needs; whereas, health care providers utilize a different criteria and may offer more expansive services.
District Special Programs:
Communication Language and Social Skills (CLASS) locations:
Schools that have a CLASS program include Highland Park Elementary, Prairie View Elementary, Summit Pointe Elementary, and Sunset Valley Elementary. This program is also offered at GBEEC and is titled STARS.
Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) locations:
Schools that have a DHH program include Woodland Elementary, East Trails Middle School and Lee’s Summit West High School.
Life Skills (LS) locations:
Schools that have a LS program include Cedar Creek Elementary, Hawthorn Hill Elementary, Highland Park Elementary, Prairie View Elementary, Sunset Valley Elementary and all secondary schools.
Social, Emotional, Behavioral (SEB) locations:
Schools that have a SEB program include Pleasant Lea Elementary, Trailridge Elementary, Underwood Elementary and all secondary schools.
Medically Fragile location:
Sunset Valley Elementary houses the Medically Fragile program for the district.
Vision (VI) locations:
Schools that have a VI program include Bernard Campbell Middle School and Lee’s Summit North High School.
